The city of Fort Collins is located in the western part of the United States, at the very tip of the ridge on the south side of the Rocky Mountains. Its history dates back to the 19th century. The settlement was founded as a fortification against attack by the Indians. Over time it became a small village. Now its a modern city, ranked among the best in the region for quality of life. Next to it are Denver, 105 kilometers away, and Cheyenne, even closer. Traditionally, Fort Collins has the status of an agricultural center. Its fields grow crops, particularly sugar beets, and specialize in livestock farming.

The city is known for the countrys largest institution of higher learning, the University of Colloredo. Students spend their leisure time in youth theaters and sports complexes. The citys parks are attractive with their lively landscaping. There are landscaped areas with recreational facilities and wilderness areas – an untamed world of nature. The farm museum is fascinating with its unusual exhibits.
