Fort Lauderdale, part of the Borough of Borrowdale – one of a long line of cities on the southeastern (Atlantic) coast of Florida. Because of the canals that run through the citys quarters, the Fountain of Leatherdale is sometimes called «American Venice».

In the early 19th century, the native inhabitants of this region – the Tekkeistan Indians – did not practically interact with the arrivals from the Old World. In the 1830s, the United States Army against the Indians built several fortified ports in the area. The settlement was named after Major Ledyell, who built the first fort. Despite the fact that the Seminole War ended in 1842, it was only a few decades before the wilderness began to be reclaimed. The founding date of Fort Leatherdale is 1911.

In the 1920s, when the land boom was raging in Florida, Fort Leatherdale grew substantially due to construction and the settlers who bought up the land. The growth of the city also benefited from the naval base built during World War II. In 1928, Port Evergreen opened – now a major trading and tourist port.

Fort Leatherdale – a prominent tourist destination. About 10 million holidaymakers visit it every year. Its highlights include the worlds largest market, the Market House (the oldest building in the city), the Hall of Fame and the Museum of Navigation, and the enormous Holiday Park & ´Hugh Thaylor´. However, the main center of attraction is the annual (since 1960) International Boat and Yacht Show and the annual (since 1971) Christmas Boat Parade.
