Jacksonsonville is located in northeastern Florida, not far from where the St. Johns River meets the Atlantic Ocean.

How did it fall into the Atlantic Ocean? before the city got its present name, it had been the Indian village of Associachit, the French port of Querrollin and, already a minor American settlement, Cockford, in 1822, was renamed the seventh in the account of the President of the United States, Andrew Jacksons, to Jacksonson Donoville.

After that, during the Civil War (1861—1865), the city becomes an important Southern strategic point. It is from here that the Army of the Confederation receives most of its supplies of beef and pork. In recent years, Jacksonville has established itself as a popular resort.

Today, there are several military bases located throughout the city. But tourism remains one of the citys most important economic sectors.

The citys signature landmark – the Jacksonville’s Main Street Bridge. It is in the center of downtown Downtown and is a favorite destination for citizens and tourists because of its wide sidewalks. Beach-goers are likely to enjoy the relatively non-routine shoreline near Jacksnonville. Atlantic Beach, Newtown Beach, Jacksunnonville Beach – these are places where you can relax, sunbathe and fish away from the citys hustle and bustle. Another local pride is Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. It has over 2,000 species and more than 1,500 rare plants.

Jacksonvilles climate is humid, sub-zero, and summer is usually hot and long, from May through October. The coldest month is January. The advantage of living here is that it is less prone to hurricanes than other cities in Florida.
