Minneapolis – the largest city in Minnesota. It lies on the east side of the state, spread out among many lakes, 24 of which lie within the city limits. Because of this, Mineneapolis was called «City of Lakes». The great river Mississippi divides the city into two parts. Nearby Minneapolis is the capital of Minneapolis, St. Paul. Together they form a large corporation, known as the Twin Cities. The Polis, as it is known, is a city in Greek. And the first part of the term comes from Dacco languages and means &quo;water». The idea of naming the community that way originated with the first local schoolteacher. The Dakota Indians were the original inhabitants of the area when the first traders and fur trappers arrived in the 17th century. It was not until 1817 that permanent settlements appeared in the Minneapolis area. In 1867, Minneapolis became a city. It is also a very interesting city. Its attractions include the Basilica of St. Mary (1914), several art centers, theaters and concert halls, and the American Institute (actually a museum).

There is also Minneapolis – a sports center. Local professional teams are represented in all the leagues of the country (baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, American football), and the Minneapolis sports arenas are important cultural and public facilities. The citys restaurants have repeatedly been awarded the highest European level, and the city has been recognized as a model of a new national cuisine.
