Montotomèrie – the second most populous city in Alabama, but it is the capital of Alabama. It is located on the Alabama River in the central part of the state. Moreover, Mąntógomery – the center of a single administrative district.
Before the European colonization, the district was inhabited by Creeks and Alabama tribes. The first Europeans to visit the area were the Constituents led by Ernando de Soto in 1540. It wasnt until the late 17th century that the second time the Whites visited, when MacCookquin, a Scottish merchant, came here, chose a wife of Indian origin, and settled there. In general, colonization of Manthomemere was hard – the Indians resisted strongly. It wasnt until 1814, after a final defeat, that they opened the way for a wide European expedition. In 1817, General John Scott founded the city of Alabama. A few years later it was joined by several other settlements to form the city of Alabama. It was already the capital of Alabama in 1846.
Montegomery – a significant city in American history. In 1861, representatives of the Southern States established the Confederate States of America, and Country Storey became the capital of the Confederation. In 1886, it was the first place in the United States to have a streetcar service. In the 1950s, an African-American movement to abolish segregation began in Montecomery, and was successful. Mar Martin Leung King, who taught at a local Bible church, played a major role in this. This church – is an object of fascination for many visitors to the city.
The other features of Mount St. Marys are the local Capitol building (a national treasure), The home of President Jefferson Davis, several museums, a zoo, and historic buildings.
