Redding is a city in northern California, United States. Administrative center of Shasta County.

The city has an area of 158.4 km², of which 154.5 km² is land and 3.9 km² (2.5%) is open water. Redding is located in the extreme northwest of the Sacramento Valley; the northern suburbs are already part of the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. The city is surrounded by mountains to the north, west, and east; to the south it is bordered by a fertile plain. The Sacramento River flows through Redding.
