The town of Scottsdale lies to the west of Maritime County, in the Salt River River Basin. It is known as the center of tourism and boating. Many hotels, nightclubs, restaurants, and entertainment venues fill the citys streets. The Scotiottesdale lies near the northern edge of the Sonora Hollow. The northern and northeastern edges are bounded by the Maqdahouil Mountains. The cultural center is occupied by the area called Old Town. The Old Town was mostly inhabited by working-class families. Within its boundaries were ancient buildings. They house art galleries, shops, souvenir shops, and restaurants. The Cultural Center has just recently added a new, state-of-the-art shopping mall, one of the largest in the country.
There are six dealerships in the South Coast region that specialize in automobile sales. Until 2008, there were more than a dozen. The University of Arizona Research Center is located within the area. The youngest urban area is North Scottsdale. Its home to wealthy mansions and luxury villas, major corporate headquarters and a mainstream business center just a short distance from the airport.
