Temecula is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. Population: 109,428 (2014). It ranks 5th on the list of cities in the county with the largest number of residents, 59th on the same list for California, and 259th on the same list for the United States. The city’s name comes from the Native American word Temecunga, which translates to “Place of the Sun” or as “The place where the Sun shines through the fog.”

Temecula is in the southwestern part of the so-called Inland Empire. Temecula is bordered by the town of Murrieta from the northwest, by hills to the west, south and southeast, and by vineyards to the east. The area of the city is 78.13 km², including 0.04 km² (0.05%) of open water. There are 39 parks in the city.

The major freeways I-15, I-215 and SR 79 run through the town, while Murrieta Airport (French Valley) offers air links.
