The city of Ójéko is the center of Mac-Lennan County, which is in the heart of Texas. Local residents and citizens of the United States call it the Heart of Texas. The city is nestled between a single lake and the Brazos River.

The indigenous inhabitants of the area are the Uyichit tribes, whom the Spanish called «ouako» («uyeko» in English). In the 1820s the American army fought the Indian army over the land, causing the Ouko to move a little further west, near Fort Worth. But it wasnt until the late 1840s that migrants and pioneers moved in. In 1845, the first Christian university in Texas and the first west of the Mississippi River appeared. And in March 1849 the first house was built. Initially, the city fathers planned to call the town Lamartine, but they chose Ójékő – after the village of the Huaco Indians who lived there.

Today Ójékő is the center of the agricultural industry. It has both livestock and horticulture. In Oyeko, there are cotton mills, textile plants, and other factories. In 1885, a company opened in Oueco called &Peacher & Company, producing gas-filled drinks that became world-famous. The Dr. Pierre Museum is a popular tourist destination.

In spite of its provincial status, Uójeco has a number of sites that have the potential to draw visitors to the city. In 1902, they built the «Washington Avenue Bridge across the river, which at that time was the longest single-lane bridge in the world. The architectural landmarks of Ouyejeko include the old Baylor University buildings, the County Courthouse, and the City Hall. The city of Oueko is home to the all-American Low-cost Roadside Hotel chain, the Alamo Plaza, which opened in 1929.

p>The city has a zoo (21 acres, about 300 species of animals), the Aquatic Park & Aquaculture Park; The Hawaiian Waterfalls, the palaeontological museum with a rich collection of monuments, and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. The neighborhoods around the city, especially in the Lake Oueyeko area, are full of recreation sites such as campsites, parks and nature preserves.
